Let’s get one thing straight.
There is no such thing as freedom of speech if you work for a company. That is why ESPN commentator Curt Schilling is in so much hot water after comparing Nazi’s to Muslims, which is a dangerous and foolish thing in the first place. But more on that later.
Schilling is an employee of ESPN. Even though he has an independent twitter account he represents the company when he posts a tweet. It is the same with me. My twitter handle is TerryFoster971 but when I post something I represent The Detroit News and 971 FM The Ticket. If they don’t like something I post they can say something. And I’ve deleted tweets before because my bosses did not like it.
I did not scream “freedom of speech.” That is protected by the government, not your employer. So when Schilling quits ESPN and becomes a private citizen he can say anything he wants. I do not blame the network for taking Schilling off the Little League World Series. It seemed like an odd time to post a tweet with Hitler in the background comparing a religion to a political party.’
However, I would not fire Schilling. He simply needs to cool off a bit.
The other thing is I do not believe his numbers. He said 10 percent of Germans were Nazi’s. I’ve found literature that supports that and I’ve read literature that says the percentage was much higher than that.
What I don’t buy is that 5-10 percent of Muslims are extremists. There are 1.6 billion Muslims in the world. So Schilling is telling us there are between 80 million and 160 million extremists in the world. I view extremists as people that could join ISIS and want to destroy America and any allies.
I refuse to believe there are that many extremists in the world. If that were the case why is ISIS recruiting non Muslims to do more dirty work in this country? They would not need to recruit. They could just arm everybody and try to take over this country.
What Schilling did is cause more fear for a religion that teaches peace but has people that are as dangerous as hell. I simply dispute his numbers.
