History making Monday night in Detroit should be a blast

This fan base needs Monday night.

It needs the Tigers to wake up and beat the Kansas City Royals at Comerica Park. That deficit in the American League Central is not shrinking. However, the number of games to catch the Royals is.

It needs the Lions to open up the season on a winning note. Football wasn’t much fun around here this weekend as Michigan and Michigan State were thumped by Notre Dame and Oregon. Michigan never woke up and lost 31-0 to Notre Dame.

Oregon outscored MSU 28-3 on its way to a 46-27 victory in a showdown of top 10 teams.

More importantly Detroit fans need to party and enjoy a rare Monday night of show down games, music, food, block parties and joy. It will be fun downtown to enjoy history.

We’ve never had a Monday Night season opener opposite a Tigers game this important. The Tigers begin at 4 p.m. and the Lions at 7:30 and I know of people who will spend the entire day there. I will spend a good chunk of time downtown.

The Valenti and Foster Show will broadcast live at Grand Circus Park from 2-6 p.m. We will be followed by Pat Caputo from 5-6 p.m.

Afterwards I plan on grabbing a bite to eat and enjoying some music before heading into the Lions game.

So Monday should be a blast.

Let’s hope we don’t have a sports hangover the next morning.
