The Tigers bullpen is haunted

I keep telling myself that sample size is too small. And really it is.

The Tigers newest reliever Joakim Soria has only been on the mound twice but he has been twice as bad as anybody else in the bullpen. He was brought in to stomp out the fire, not scatter it all over Comerica Park.

During an 11-4 loss to the Chicago White Sox Soria gave up four runs, six hits and two home runs in just 1/3 of an inning. Do you want to hear some crazy numbers?

In two appearances which lasted just 2/3 of an inning Soria has been roughed up for five runs and eight hits. His earned run average is 54.0 and his WHIP is an astonishing 13.50. Opponents are hitting .800 against him. And he was booed off the field during a winnable game. He came in with a 2.70 ERA and 0.87 WHIP.
Sample size.

It does not mean anything right now but if this keeps up it will convince me that the Tigers bullpen is haunted or spooked. Maybe Dave Dombrowski needs to trade for an exorcist rather than a left-handed bat or arm.

Soria is actually a good pitcher. He really is. He doesn’t usually float pitches like water balloons. So let’s sit back and relax and wait for the real Soria to return.

If he does not work out remember that the Tigers still have Danny Worth and his knuckle ball.
