Dwyane Wade, LeBron James and Chris Bosh will be unrestricted free agents this summer. And for the life of me I cannot figure out how to construct a massive press conference at the Palace as I hear James say he is bringing his talents to Belle Isle.
It would be great if it happened but you know it won’t. My guess is this big three returns to Miami and tries to add one more really talented piece. Wade is not what he used to be because of bad knees. Bosh has always been a little overrated and is more jump shooting big man than ever.
But the Pistons would still take them if James were part of the equation. And do you want to hear a little dirty secret? I think the Pistons are going to secretly make a hail Mary phone call to James to see if there is any chance he’d come. I doubt it. If he does return to the north it is more likely he’d return to Cleveland or even take a shot with the Bulls in Chicago.
Places like Detroit do not attract super stars.
Former Pistons General Manager Jack McCloskey once offered up his entire roster for Los Angeles Lakers superstar Magic Johnson. The Lakers said no. Pistons former GM Joe Dumars tried to trade for Allen Iverson in his prime, but a guy named Matt Geiger refused to waive his no-trade clause. Dumars did eventually get Iverson but unfortunately it came at a time when his game was bigger in the casinos than on the court.
No superstars are headed here anytime soon, but it sure is nice to dream about it.
