Memphis — If my daughter Celine eats meat that means it is good.
On Tuesday night Rendezvous barbeque in downtown Memphis passed the Celine test with flying colors when she gave the thumbs up to smoked sausage, beef brisket and a rib bone during dinner. The restaurant doesn’t even know what a big deal this is because Celine has turned down some of the finest meats around Detroit.
Do you know how Mikey eats everything? Well Celine doesn’t eat anything.
Celine loves pasta. She calls herself a pasta-tarian if that is a word. I have supplemented her meals with grilled vegetables and summer sausage. But she won’t eat any meat. I wanted to take the family to Rendezvous because I have been there a number of times and the ribs are to die for.
They are so good that I don’t even put sauce on the bones. My son Brandon did, knocking out his bones in record time. But Celine was the key. When she took a second helping of the barbeque nachos you knew this place was on jam.
By the way it is not easy to find. It is down the block from the famous Peabody Hotel in a back alley. Good luck finding it.
I know my meats are going to be better this summer. I brought some dry rub back when I smoke meats on my Traeger smoker/grill. By the way I passed the Celine test also. She eats my cooking off the Trager. That is how good that food is.
(Join me Sunday for a Chili cook off at Third Street Bar downtown Detroit (4 pm). Let’s enjoy great chili and beer near Wayne State University.)
